Ching Ming Festival 2012
Ching Ming (Qingming in Mandarin) is a day of remembrance, and also marks the beginning of spring. This year, the Festival falls on Wednesday, 4th April.
Also known as the Clear and Bright Festival, Spring Remembrance, Ancestors Day, & Tomb Sweeping Day, this Chinese tradition is observed on the 15th day from the Spring Equinox. It also celebrates the start of the spring season.
Ching Ming is a day of remembrance when local families journey to their ancestors’ graves to perform cleansing rites, pay their respects, and share offerings. Paper offerings — such as paper money, clothes or other accessories — may be burned at grave sites to "provide sustenance" in the afterlife.
Many plan family outings for the day to enjoy the greenery of spring. Kite flying and hiking are especially popular.

Mutianyu is one of three great passes of the Great Wall. You can see it is fully restored and although steep at points, it is not too onerous to climb. You might prefer a section that is more "natural" for a more authentic experience. The Xiangshan, part of the Yanshan Mountains, is one of the most favored hiking sites in Beijing. Whichever sites you choose to see: • Wear comfortable shoes |

Tiananmen, the largest city square in the world, is a great place to fly a kite. It is rather preferable to fly kites in the afternoon as it will be less crowded. You can buy kites from vendors at the square but if going in the afternoon, note that they can close early! The Temple of Heaven is a delightful and exquisite place to visit with your family. It is spacious and much more uncovered area than other parks in Beijing. It is a best kite flying venue so come and show off or learn from the masters.
